PATTERN SPREAD

In my pattern project, I focused on the theme of artistic expression using photos of paint and graffiti in the tunnels. The graffiti tunnels are some of the most interesting places on campus, providing a space for students to express their creativity and feelings with anything from cute artwork to personal grievances written on the walls.

Seeing inspirational quotes and creative art pieces side-to-side with political statements and sentiments of rebellion provides a visual representation of some of the many contrasting facets of student life. While the commotion on the walls may seem chaotic, many students find the tunnels to be a calming place to hang out or go for a nighttime walk. In my project, I examined some of the patterns in the tunnels that add to the detail and creative atmosphere of their surroundings, despite going mostly unnoticed at first glance.
